TJCs…

I suddenly regret the fact that we didn’t join TJC invitational yesterday, because I think that it would be some sort of catharsis for us. We’d just go there and have fun with the other teams’ cases. It was seriously damn funny at times, ’cause TJCs is just like “The Arena” at times. Haha.

Anyway, I went with Jun Hui to watch the competition. We watched DEP swing team in the first round, then watched PLMGS in the second prelims and then their quarters (DEP couldn’t break). DEP match was pretty boring and one-sided, and from the match I could tell that there are only 2 competent debaters in Intermediate. I’m so glad I didn’t sign up for DEP, though it does give you connections… But then again, I’ll pass.

PLMGS matches were more interesting, they were surprisingly bad in the second prelim round (though they won) and surprisingly good in the quarters. They honestly TRASHED Xinmin in the quarters, even Jebro was “so proud” of them.

Went out later on, and I’ll post what happened in a password protected post right now…

shit’s pouring, and i happen to be beneath it.

crap.. nothing’s been working out for me.. life juz seems to be crashing down on me, nothing’s working the way i want it to, even small stuff.. For example, i juz lost ALL my history notes from sec 3.. long story. i seriously got no idea how it happened at all.. haiz.

and then i still can’t wrap my head around maths, be it a or e. I’m still having problems with it, but i still know that it has got to be two of the easiest subjects to get distinctions, and i need those 2 distinctions.. but i still don’t understand a whole lot of maths.. which sux.. i was struggling with the 1998 o levels a maths paper 1 juz earlier.. and i still haven’t completed it yet and i wanna go to bed already.. and then i still got another stupid english essay from edwin heng. Let’s recap.. first it was “Gifts”, then it was “Gratitude”, then “Iranian women”, then “impressions of Singapore”. Now? “The Teacher”. Yes, that’s it, “The Teacher”.. HOW THE HELL AM I GONNA WRITE THIS ONE???? i crapped for the first 2 ones because the topics were crap themselves, then the 3rd and 4th one i put in a bit more effort because there was more for me to bring in to talk about. But now, “The teacher”???? come on… miss hua u better come back asap..

then i still gotta research on 3 motions for NUS. insane format.. 15 motions in total, we’ll only be doing 3 of them. MADNESS………. ah well, guess i don’t have a choice.. after all, this is gonna be my second last competition. so, ya, might finish these last laps, then it’s gonna be study study study study non stop already i guess, though it’s impossible for someone like me to do that.. hah. ah well, guess i’ll have to try. no other choice..

Im still pissed with a long list of things, but i think i’ll stop ranting for now.. it’ll take forever to finish..

In other news,i juz finished reading 1984 today.. pretty good book, scary imagination george orwell had of the future in 1949… great plot, though a bit too much description at times (*ahem*lord of the rings *ahem*), but it’s still manageable. sad ending though, but i guess there’s not much problem with that.. insane book, think i might read it again in the future, unlike some of my books.. But i do have a few other books to finish first.. i still got les miserables, which is quite thick.. and i just got a soft copy of “Too Kill a Mockingbird”.. i always wondered what it was about.. guess i’ll find out soon..

anywayz, im pretty bored with everything right now.. Thank god im alone at home now.. but im sick of maths and work right now.. guess i’ll juz go to bed and see what other fucked up stuff are in store for me tomorrow…

bored… as usual

had training this morning, we sparred plmgs again… and during the debrief, i’ve been able to draw a few conclusions:

(Kevin)*debrief = complicated
(Liz)*debrief = law class
(Kevin+Liz)*debrief = complicated law class = Kevin vs Liz
Mode/most commonly used phrase = “What I’m trying to say is…”

so ya, debate sessions went as usual, except i totally screwed up my style as 1st prop, cuz i had too many points and they were all squeezed into one piece of paper… so yeah, my style became jun hui for a day…

Anyway, went for lunch with the plmgs girls only, cuz atk and arian wan go home study (wtf….) and kevin and liz went to ding tai feng on their own… so, i didn’t wanna go home to do hmwrk, so ya, i juz went with 5 girls for lunch, which really sucked btw… dead boring… but of course it beats going home.. then after that came club, where i am at now, and got some pretty bad news that i’ll probably post abt soon in a password protected post… haiz. and it’s 12.45 now and i’m still not going home yet.. im seriously BoReD to death right now.. ah well, guess i’ll go to the lobby and sleep on the sofa or smth…

The Arena is still lame….

despite the fact that this episode of the arena, showcases two first teams from two A Division school, it still looks like crap… Not really laughing at this episode, but I’m pretty stunned.. Because it’s really shocking to see them keeping a straight face while talking about “self-centeredness” involving things like CIP, wanting to be on TV, and kiasu, kiasi, kanchiong (yes st nicks actually said that) If it were me, i’d be laughing all the way even while i was speaking…. Even celine wee POI’ed the definitions for god’s sake.. Thank god I’m not participating in this fucked up show… Come on, guest judge is a news reporter.. St nicks got trashed by MGS 20 to 0. Second round, they got trashed again 24 to 0….. holy fuck… now, 44 to 0 in mgs favour.. Definately not the way it should be going..

Anyway, i think i’ve spent enough time harping about the arena… don’t think i should be wasting my time on that anyway.. parents are out now and i’ve resolved to blogging away in Writeroom again, im too lazy to bother doing any homework despite the fact that i’ve got and essay to do, and i got a physics and chem test this week.. I’m sick and tired of it.. Not to mention i had to finish an A Maths paper in 1 hours 40 mins today, and i had training after that…

Debates is really getting even more pressurising, with my last 2 tournaments coming up so soon.. NUS Challenge Shield Prelims round are on 3rd Feb, 9th Feb is JGs prelims already.. amazingly fast..

Say “Hi” to my new favourite program :)

I’m currently writing this post in “Writeroom”. I think it’s my new favourite program :D. It’s actually just a text editor, but what it does is black out your whole screen, and then you just start typing.. Looks like the matrix.. haha.

It really is the best way to write anything without getting distracted by anything else. I just finished my english essay in this program. I think I’ll be using it for most of my blog posts too..

Anywayz, manfred’s in trouble, because interclass isn’t working out. Lack of judges, and also he didn’t inform kevin in advance about the dates, and even he can’t make it, haiz, screwed up…

SRJC sucked…

I think i won’t even bother to talk about wad happened specifically.. the competition just sucked for us as a whole….. We won acjc, then lost to njc and ri.. fucked up..

Anywayz, our cca exhibition was yesterday, and only 3 classes walked pass our class. The rest weren’t brought to our area at all.. But that doesn’t really matter, cuz we got the names of like 10 ppl, which is more than enough i think. After all we’ll be getting most of our ppl from interclass. And furthermore lee hak boon change the rule, now if you’re part of the school team of a club/society, it can still be considered ur first cca, so i guess we’ll be having 2 school teams.. :P
Im at club now, was at borders just now, got quite a few books, i’ll be busy over the next few days or weeks reading les miserables and 1984.. haha. im going soon, so might as well end this one here..

EDIT:

PS: knight’s tale is just shakespeare………….

iPhone is finally here..

Wow, to think that Apple’s brand new mobile phone has been in the making for 2.5 years already, and it all started because they wanted to create a tablet pc initially, but then Steve Jobs got so excited over the touchscreen they developed, that he decided to use it for a mobile phone. And I have to say, the results are really quite remarkable.

I think I’ll cover the technical details first:

- 3.5 inch touchscreen
- 5 buttons in total -> Volume up/down, silent button, sleep/wake button, and “Home” button (my k750i has 21 buttons, and a joystick that nvr works properly for me…)
- 3 different sensors on the phone: Ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, and accelerometer.
- Has in built Wi-fi connectivity and Bluetooth 2.0
- Full featured web browser
- supports HTML in email
- 5 hours talk time, 16 hours audio playback
- 4gb US$499, 8gb US$599
- 3.5MM AUDIO OUTPUT CONNECTOR (FINALLY!!!!!!)
- many many many many more stuff..

This is product is truely REVOLUTIONARY… A phone with just a touchscreen, I think only apple would have thought of that.. If the touchscreen really works as advertised in the keynote (which according to several accounts by people who have already managed to try it out, it does) then this thing is really a marvel… where do i start to explain about what it can do??

Well, according to apple, it’s actually 3 products in one: a fullscreen ipod video with touch sensitive controls, a revolutionary mobile phone, and a breakthrough internet communicator.. So i guess i’ll start with it being a ipod..

4gb and 8gb of memory, I myself already have a very small library (only roughly 900 songs, while i know many ppl with a few thousand..) but yet, the 4gb isn’t even enough for me to store my MUSIC, needless to talk about movies.. But of course i can see that flash memory is necessary, or else the phone will be big and heavy. So i guess this is one of the iPhone’s shortcomings that i can accept. The iPhone really works well with going through the music library though, all you have to do is just swipe the screen up or down with your thumb, and the music will scroll by. Then after you start playing a song, the album art is displayed beautifully on the screen. Then when you turn the iphone horizontally, coverflow automatically appears, and you can start moving through all your albums.. Looks wonderful. The video also works as expected… With on screen controls when the display is touched. Photos are really fun though. turn the phone horizontally and a landscape photo will fill the screen, tilt it back and a portrait photo will be able to fill the screen. etc.

I was initially planning on writing a damn long blog post on everything the iPhone can do, but that would take forever, so for more info juz go here: http://www.apple.com/iphone/

I really want the iPhone, despite the steep price tag, but then again it won’t arrive in asia until at least next year, even the USA will only get it in June…. Then again, Apple might release an “iPhone nano” or “iPhone mini” or something like that with lesser features for other people who don’t need all the email and web browsing functions (though i would like them, i doubt i’d use it much at all..) But this phone by itself is already truely revolutionary… Wish i had it with me right now…………
